3. Limon Rotisserie is finally open in Bayview’s Third Street development. The restaurant is the first of a few to open in the development. Limon’s menu will be the same as the Mission location and according to GrubStreet, its standout dish is the roasted pollo a la brasa. Next in line for openings in the Bayview development is Brown Sugar Kitchen, followed by Radio Africa.
4. A semi-permanent food truck park finally got the green light — a year after it was first proposed. Carlos Muela’s vision of a SOMA StrEAT Food Park, at 11th and Division, could easily become a reality. Inspired by the food truck gatherings in Portland, the food park is proposed to have a covered seating area, beer garden, bathrooms, and wi-fi. It’s too early for a projected launch date, but Muela hopes to start construction early 2012.
5. San Francisco has been hot on food trucks for a while now, but Oakland’s is just starting to warm up. The city’s eastern neighbor hasn’t been too welcoming of food trucks, but that looks like it’s just about to change. Oakland is home to one daily food truck gathering at 21st and Webster, and 150 Grand is now hosting a regular lunch gathering. Trucks will be on a rotation schedule starting with Curry Up Now.
6. Not going home for the holidays? EaterSF has you covered. If you’re planning on staying in San Francisco this Christmas, Eater’s handy map highlights the restaurants that will be open and ready to serve holiday meals. From the Richmond to the Mission, a wide array of cuisines will be ready and open come Christmas day.
7. Mission restaurant and dance club Bissap Baobab is getting a Haitian pop-up lunch. Members of the Afoutayi Haitian Dance and Drum Company will be cooking up traditional Haitian lunch dishes Monday through Friday. The menu will include pumpkin soup, fried plantains, fried pork, and coconut fish. According to Eater SF, cooks are known to break out drums, dance, and play Rara music.
8. Boobs and beef are coming to San Francisco — and they’re not on Broadway. Penthouse is debuting its first West Coast addition of the Penthouse Club and Steakhouse. The restaurant boasts fine dining, two stages, bottle service as well as topless dancers and appearances from Penthouse pets. For those so inclined, the club and restaurant should be opening in February 2012.
9. Joseph Humphery’s Presidio restaurant Dixie might be open before New Years. Its opening date was supposed to be “right around Thanksgiving,” but given that the restaurant is on federal land and part of the Presidio Trust, we’re not holding our breath. Though the name is “Dixie,” the restaurant will embody Southern hospitality, not necessarily cuisine. The dishes are under $20 and feature an interactive tasting menu.
10. News broke Thursday that Elizabeth Falkner’s Citizen Cake will be closing at the end of the month. The restaurant will be open with limited hours, but at the end of the year, the whole operation is going down. Along with Citizen Cake, Falkner’s other restaurant Orson will shutter at the end of the year. “It’s heartbreaking for me, but I can’t do it anymore, “ Falkner told InsideScoop. “I just have to start over, like everyone else.”
